the amount of energy used in a certain period
metabolism
a series of chemical reactions that occur in a living organism to sustain life. May be categorized as anabolic or catabolic

rate of work
sports nutrition
application of nutrition knowledge to a practical daily eating plan focused on providing the fuel for physical activity
system
functionally organized unit - can be at cellular level or higher level (whole body)
thermodynamics
the study of the relations between heat, work, temperature, and energy
turnover
rate at which a substance is replaced in the tissue
work
the amount of force multiplied by the distance over which it is applied
